The people here are really nice. They also like to give me things, especially fruit. At one point I had two shopping bags full of mikans (small Japanese oranges. Very yummy), a ginormous Japanese pear, several apples and more persimmons than you can shake a stick at- they were all gifts too! I ate fruit salad for about three days straight before I decided I couldn't keep eating.
Persimmon season has passed I think, so I haven't been getting armloads of them lately. I have, however, received yet more mikans. I've been trying to eat more fruit lately, so these were welcome :). I hope the fruit donations pick up a little bit again once things start to grow. (But not too much! I don't want to waste any fruit!)
To date, I've received one or more of each of the following: apple, pineapple, pear, mikan, apple, persimmon (both kinds, cucumber, tomato, sweet potato, and yuzu (lemon like fruit). I've also received curry (ALWAYS welcome), somen (cold noodle dish), muffins, mochi up the wazoo, and a bunch of cans of fruit juice.
In short, fruit may be expensive, but around here, you might not even need to buy it around here. Not that I'm complaining!
